UTILITIES Dougherty County and Albany are served by the Georgia Power Company, Albany Water Gas & Light Commission, and Mitchell Electric Membership Cooperative. Lee County and Leesburg are served by Georgia Power and Sumter Electric Membership Cooperative. Electrical service depends on the location of your residence. EDUCATION Students attending kindergarten must be five (5) years old on or before September 1, and first-graders must be six (6) on or before September 1. All students entering Georgia schools for the first time in any grade must show certificates of immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, polio, whooping cough, diphtheria, and tetanus. Kindergartners and first graders must have birth certificates and have a recent ear, eye and dental examination. Second-graders and above should have their last report card. VOTER REGISTRATION Residents of Albany may register to vote at the Governmental Building, 4th floor, 225 Pine Avenue, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM daily, or at any public library during regular hours. Voter registration is also available at Darton College or Albany State University. When registering, please have available positive identification such as a driver's license. DRIVER'S LICENSE A Georgia driver's license is required for all residents who drive in Georgia. A new resident has 30 days in which to obtain a Georgia driver's license. A Georgia Driver's Manual may be obtained from the Georgia State Patrol Station on 2062 Newton Rd in Albany, GA or may be found on the Internet.
